Week 3 | Midnight after Execution

[ A few hours after the execution and after Mithos spent some time in his room ... going over everything he had decided to go and find McBurn for a fight. Not only that, also invited Ris to see said fight since he said he was going to let her do so and now seemed to have been as good as time as any. He knew that Ris was likely going to go and help Minato, which is another reason why he waited a bit after the execution to go and ask.

So here they are in the courtyard as Mithos takes a moment to ready himself. ]

I'm ready when you two are.

[ ... Though he's only fighting one of them gotta make sure Ris is ready to see the action? ]

Come on, you heard her. Might as well go and use that power of yours now.

[ Yeah McBurn is the last opponent anyone wants to take lightly. He'd basically just steamroll anyone who isn't careful.

But hey, with Mithos on his toes in the battle, it seems to also mean this battle will last longer than the previous ones. And beyond that, he'd been curious what his power could do in a fight. ]

[ Mithos hums in consideration. Well, if the "audience" agrees! ]

Alright, then.

[ He doesn't do so immediately though. That'd be too obvious. So instead he lets the spar go on a bit further until he finds an opening.

Then everything around becomes pure darkness and reality around them distorts so everything seems ... off. Just for a few seconds though, as Mithos quietly moves around McBurn in the darkness to take a swing right as he releases his anti-light.

Not right from behind, that's also too obvious. But more so to the left.]

[...Woah.

Ris had expected something fascinatingly strange, but this is on a whole other level. Even though there's nothing to be seen, Ris can't pull her gaze away from the all-consuming darkness...

Eyes wide, she just clasps her hands tightly in front of her chest, not willing to make sound just in case she throws off either of them.]

[ A smirk touched his lips at that.

He's glad when he notices Mithos doesn't just release the power just then. And so, the fight continues, though he seems immensely more focused now - not that he wasn't before, but now McBurn knows he needs to be on the lookout for something. So it's not just a normal blow he'll be deflecting or countering.

...The best part about it?

He doesn't know what to expect. So, some of that excitement creeps into his eyes, but then...Mithos uses that ability of his.

In the exact same moment the blond closes in, McBurn turns his head to face him...

And steps back. ]

[ Even being without his powers, McBurn's reflexes are quicker than most, and Mithos is being countered almost immediately, his sword swinging towards the blond's sword hand swiftly. ]

...Heheh. Not a bad power you've got there. Let's see if you can keep it up!

[ ...Oh, and. Mithos did get a hit on him, judging by the light red that's bloomed a bit on his right shoulder. ]

[ ... Disappointing, but not surprised that McBurn was able to counter that immediately. But when he notices that he was actually able to get a hit on McBurn?

He'll have to take pride in that later. He knows better than to get excited in a middle of a sparring match with someone like him. ]

Heh, well, I won't be relying on it!

[ There's a reason, but there's no reason to explain its weakness right. So for now they'll go back to normal fighting for a bit. Need to leave McBurn in suspense on whether or not he's going to use it again if it wishes to gain another hit on him! ]

[Aww. Given how McBurn talks himself up, it's nice to see that he can live up to it, but Ris can't help but be a little disappointed when he dodges.

As much as she likes McBurn, naturally, if it's between McBurn and Mithos Ris is going to be biased toward wanting Mithos to win, even if she knows that realistically, he won't.

Still not wanting to distract either, she'll just stay off to the side, gaze locked on the two of them and scarcely wanting to blink for fear of what she might miss.]

[ Grats, Mithos.

Now the fight's definitely going to last past his bedtime. ]

Haven't mastered it completely?

[ Yeah, now that he's having fun, he's going to be prodding, and making guesses of his own. He surmises that it's not the type of ability to be used longterm at least - otherwise Mithos would've continued using it. ]

[ Is that really something to be upset about McBurn? Look how long he's lasting compared to the first time they sparred! ]

That's not it. Good guess, though. Want to try again?

[ He could use it a little longer if he wants to but ... maybe next time he gives it a shot. Until then he'll counter McBurn as the older man guesses to what he said. ]

[Hm. So it's not something that's particularly time-limited. That probably means it's not drawing from any source she ought to be worried about, or hopefully he wouldn't have offered to use it in the first place... for all she worries about Mithos, at least she doesn't have to worry about him for the same reasons as Minato.

So there's something else. Some kind of weakness, one further usage might reveal? That makes sense to Ris, given how much Mithos keeps to himself.]

[ It's fine, he's not upset...definitely the exact opposite. ]

Or I could just figure it out sooner than later without guessing.

[ Their sword meet in another clash, and he'll step around the blond, being a little dodgy to try to catch him off guard. ]

[ Well good as long as McBurn is okay with it! ]

I don't think so--!

[ McBurn does in fact catch Mithos off guard with that movement. So in defense he'll use his anti-light again to try to give himself time to step back. ]

Oh?

[ This time, McBurn will move forward despite the confusion with the distortion, and making a guess that he attempted to make a get away. While he's making the pursuit, he'll suddenly swing his blade in a wide, horizontal arc to try to catch Mithos.

He's definitely enjoying this fight, yep. ]

[ Mithos very narrowly manages to dodge the wide swing that McBurn does. The darkness stays a few seconds longer as Mithos shifts his position before letting it drop right as he tries to swing at McBurn's right this time.

... Oh, it looks like McBurn might have gotten his cheek a little, there. ]

[ Did he now?

Time to block the swing with his blade! ]

So that's the 'weakness', then?

[ He doesn't elaborate on what he thinks the weakness is this time...helpfully.

Though as he's blocking the swing, he'll move to step around and swing towards the other's right arm. ]

[Ris sees that splash of red on Mithos' cheek, and... mmm, she does not like that one bit.

Even so, she stands her ground, clasping her hands tight enough that her knuckles are going pure white. If she were to be overly cautious and interrupt now, she could just risk making things more dangerous for everyone.]
